In lieu of Heber...

I thought that since I seemed to be getting a fairly good response to my last mass-emailing about the Heber Thing (sounds like a monster, doesn't it?), that I would blog the options that have been suggested in place of Heber. This way, people can respond and "vote" (or not). I can't remember which options I've shared with whom, so I'll try to present them to you all here.

OPTION 1
We could do nothing. Those who are planning to go to the MTC with Sue on the 19th will be late to Reid Ranch, but that won't significantly reduce the amount of fun to be had by all and sundry at the Ranch (unless you miss the whole day, folks!) We'll plan to do the Heber Party another year.

OPTION 2
We could rent hotel rooms in Provo or Orem. I know that there are at least 20 to choose from. True, I don't know if they all have pools, but most do. And we have several bowling establishments in the area.

OPTION 3
We could meet at a park for games and a BBQ. Again, there are many beautiful parks in the area...sure to be open in the middle of the week. Everyone could bring blankets and games and a potluck dish or chips, and I'm sure we'd have a blast.

OPTION 4
We could all meet up at one of the water attractions in the are. Besides Seven Peaks, there are the Scera water park and pool in Orem, and the Veteran's Memorial water park in Provo. These would be fun and cool, but I don't think that Sue could join in the fun, (sorry Sue).

OPTION 5
If people are interested, Devin and I could reserve a clubhouse (free of cost, but subject to availability) in the Grandview area of Provo. It has a playground, a patio area (with grill), a kitchen, a large group meeting area (w/ a big screen tv), as well as an indoor pool.

OPTION 6
We could still get rooms in Heber, and some go up to Reid Ranch and some go down to the MTC

If anyone else has ideas, please feel free to suggest and comment here.
We look forward to seeing everyone in a couple months!

The clubhouse in a nice facility and would be big enough for us. The MTC has admissions sessions hourly, I believe. Sue could petition for first session admission in the morning. My present vote is for the clubhouse, but I reserve the right to change.

The clubhouse sounds like a lot of fun. It seems to combine the best of options 3 and 4, and allows a choice among different activities. Would festivities take place the 18th, or the morning of the 19th?

Whatever you (or everyone)want, Boss. IT's a community clubhouse for my BIL'neighborhood. We just have to make sure it gets reserved for the time/day we want and that we follow the cleaning instructions. We could do an afternoon/evening thing on teh 18th or a morning thing on the 19th, but the 18th allows more time for visiting

Caroline told me that the Ray family all wanted to go to Heber, and then go down to the MTC (as per the ten-way call).Would the clubhouse be in addition to or in place of Heber?

Yeah, so the 10-way phone call was pretty confusing. I'm not really sure that a final consensus opinion was reached, but I do remember the following points for consideration:

*Sue's report time may have some flexibility.
*Lots of people would like to see Sue off. Should "lots of people" accompany Sue to the MTC, said people are not permitted to create a ruckus or cause a scene.
*Filling the MTC with Caroline's spit may necessitate evacuation, and allow us to break John out for a few hours.
*Sue doesn't want to alter a family tradition (going to Heber) just because of a little ole' mission call. She's willing to drive back to Provo the 19th, along with accompanying escorts, while others drive on to Reid Ranch.
*The "togetherness" is the important part of the family tradition, not the location. And we can be just as together in Provo as Heber.

So, I may be breaking with Alpha Family consensus (as per the 10-way phone call) but my vote is this: have a bbq/swim/party/get together at the clubhouse (if available) the afternoon/evening of the 18th in Provo. Then we'll sleep in Provo/Orem in hotels/at friends' homes/etc., and see Sue off the morning of the 19th. And then head to Reid Ranch. Maybe we can have breakfast at Denny's before she goes or something. If the clubhouse is not available, a similar scheme could be accomplished at a park, with excursions to water park/laser tag/bowling as desired.

That's my proposal. But I am certainly willing to go with the consensus opinion if it leans another way. My point: I don't care about location so much as togetherness.

MY VOTE: What boss said.(and she is the boss you know.)

Sue did say she didn't want to break tradition... but this 'tradition' hasn't been stable wrt location - other than convenient to the ranch. (Of course the ranch is far away from anything, and is really only convenient to helicopters, paratroopers, and UFOs.)

'Heber' and its predecessors were extra fun because we were all together - more than just all in the same town. While we're all together at the ranch too, there is a lot more *all* there. u

As Sue spoke on the conference call I agreed with the concept of maintaining tradition and going to Heber. But only until laser tag was mentioned. So I think I'll vote for everything because I can't make up my mind. (...So clearly I cannot choose the cup in front of me! ...So clearly I cannot choose the cup in front of you!...)

While I'm thinking of Heber vs. Provo, how is traffic on the drive up the canyon this year?

She is the boss. Unless Carolioness makes you look at her eyes.

I just want people to still get together and play...not have the fact that I'm reporting eliminate Henrichsen party time. It seems like since so many want to see me off, the clubhouse idea is most appealing, as it would eliminate the driving concerns to and from Heber. We'd better still get ice cream, though. <0

There are places to get ice cream down here in Provo you know. There is that place that used to be called Stephenette's (or something along those lines) Shrug.

Yeah, there's a shake place on University Avenue, or there's the Creamery or the CONE, or we could get some from a store...the possibilities are almost endless!

Anita votes we put Bethany and Patrick in charge of it and we all promise to nod and go along. As long as we laugh and talk a lot, whatever we're doing will be LOADS of fun.

Let's just have fun!! We can always stop at Granny's for shakes on the way back from reunion.

Anita votes that we ignore the fact that she referred to Devin by surname only. How informal.

Yes, Sir Patrick is much more appropriate. Did you look up that lineage with regard to royal ancestry, B?

The challenge was to fill up the "empty sea", which Caroline generously agreed to do by spitting.

LOL! Well, if Carolioness is threatening to fill the MTC or the "empty sea" with spit, I understand the possible evacuation. While occaisionally threatening to fill a swimming pool, Katie's spit is often too much to deal with!

So, should I try to reserve the clubhouse?
