Dr. Who?
Ok, I admit it: We are huge fans of the Sci Fi channel series Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis. We're probably not as hard core as Daddy-Omega, seeing as we don't tape every episode. But we sure count on those tapes if we happen to miss a week!
Anyway, last night during one of the commercial breaks they started advertising a new series. Not Stargate related, but something I at least enjoyed in the past: Dr. Who! They will be starting it March 17th. It brought back a rush of memories of watching it together as a family. I just hope that it is good, and I'm not getting my hopes up just to be crushed later on!
Does anyone know what color the tartis was in the PBS series?

TARDIS - Time And Relative Dimensions
In Space
The TARDIS was a blue British police call box. It was supposed to be able to change shape for disguise, but something was broken so it was always the call box. First-time guests inside the TARDIS would marvel how it was much bigger inside than out (never mind the time travel). That was back in the days when BBC had very limited distribution through PBS.
Today the British imports include Teletubbies, BooBah, and several concepts proven on that side of the pond, then brought over here: American Idol, lots of TLC programming (BBC America owns TLC, Discovery Channel, etc.), Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Deal or No Deal and many more ...)
Glad to see you posting ;-)
I really debated whether I should spell it Tartis or Tardis. I didn't realize it was an acronym!
I thought it was Tadis (due to the Brit pronunciation) until someone told me about the acronym (Paul, I think). When I saw your post, I didn't remember anything but "Time" but the Internet helped me with the rest.
I wish I had cable! sort of. Well, not enough to pay for it and I guess that's what counts.
I will by Dr. Who DVD's (or beg others to buy them for Mother's Day.)
I borrowed the DVD "Dr. Who and the Daleks" from the library and watched it with my kids. They only knew the Daleks from a skit on Mr. Bean and I wanted to bring them up to speed. It is a 1960's Disneyish movie in which they spent all the money on the sets and very little on the writing. I was surprised that the kids sat through it. I only reccomend it to enthusiastic fans who want to know the backstory for the Daleks and can overlook that The Doctor is not a Time Lord and that the other characters call him Doctor Who! (It's soooo wrong!)
I always thought it was T-O-R-T-O-I-S-E. It never made sense that it was shaped like a phone booth and not a turtle!
I too hope it will be good. It seems to me this is the third "revival" of Doctor Who since the series was canceled by the BBC. I know there was an american made for TV movie/series pilot. I was disappointed with that.
I like a lot of the stuff that the SciFi chanel does. However, there is also some that I wish they hadn't ever done. (Battlestar Galactica falls in the second group.) I'm just hoping they do a better job of being faithful to the original with Dr. Who than they did with Battlestar Galactica. (They were actually deliberate in going against what the original series was with that one. >8@ 8'( )
